For citizens of some European countries, they could enter Turkiye only with their national ID card or even expired passport (http://www.mfa.gov.tr/countries-whose-citizens-are-allowed-to-enter-turkey-with-their-national-id_s.en.mfa). Other nationalities must have visa as detailed on http://www.mfa.gov.tr/visa-information-for-foreigners.en.mfa
Since June 26, 2010 Indonesians like me could get the visa to enter the country at the airport. Fee for the visa-on-arrival (VOA) was US$25 per person (valid for short stay up to 30 days).
Apply for the visa at Turkish Embassy, Jl. H.R. Rasuna Said Kav.1 Kuningan, Jakarta, Indonesia (telephone: +62215256250, +62215264143) would cost Rp. 490.000/US$42 for single entry, Rp. 1.640.000/US$138 for multiple entry.
Starting from April 17, 2013 Indonesians could apply for e-visa through https://www.evisa.gov.tr/en/. To save the time (VOA processing at airports might take long time), 10 days before our date of departure then I applied for e-visa.
Here is some of information that I obtained from the FAQ page:
What is e-Visa?
E-Visa is an endorsement that allows the bearer to enter Turkey. It replaces “sticker”- and “stamp-type” visas formerly issued at the border crossing. Applicants obtain their visa electronically after entering required information and making payment by credit card.
After successful application, e-Visa is e-mailed to the applicant. Applicants must print out their e-Visa, show it to airport officials and customs officers and carry it with them at all times during the travel.
E-Visa is only valid for tourism or trade purposes. For other purposes such as work or study, an application through our Embassies or Consulates must be submitted.
Turkish authorities can deny entrance of a holder of e-Visa to Turkey in certain cases. Holders of visas issued by Turkish embassies or consulates are subject to the same procedure too, thus can be denied entrance.
What do I need for e-visa application?
A minimum 6-month-valid passport, flight (or any other possible means of transportation) reservation and a credit card (Master or Visa).
Do I need to enter Turkey on the exact date specified in my application?
The validity period of your e-Visa begins from the date specified in your application. You can enter Turkey on any date within this period.
If my travel dates change, can I apply for e-visa amendment for change of date?
No, you cannot. If you do not enter Turkey within the period of the validity of the e-Visa, you must apply for a new e-Visa.
How long before my travel date should I apply for e-visa?
You should apply for your e-Visa at least 24 hours before your departure. However, you are advised to make an application at least one week before your departure.
I do not have a credit card or debit card. Is there any other way of e-Visa fee payment?
No. You can only make payment with a credit or a debit card (only Mastercard or Visa). On the other hand, the card does not have to be under your name.
The process was quick, very easy. I got the e-visa sent to my e-mail within minutes after finished my payment (US$25 per person).
