Bali is always a great place to visit. First time I took Alif to this “Island of Gods” was in December 2007 (for my 33rd birthday) with my mom. Four years later, December 2011 (my 37th birthday), then I traveled to Bali again, this time it was just me and my son.
Same like previous Bali trip, I bought return tickets from Merpati (http://www.merpati.co.id/) because they have most convenient flight timing for the short weekend getaway. I booked a room at Sayang Maha Mertha through Booking.com (http://www.booking.com/hotel/id/sayang-maha-mertha.en.html) because they have good location near Legian Beach where Alif would get his surfing lesson from Up2U (http://www.up2usurfschool.com/).
FIRST DAY – December 10, 2011
On that Saturday, Alif and I took our early morning flight and arrived at Denpasar Airport at 8:00 AM.
After a short taxi ride, we arrived at Legian and directly registered for Alif’s first surfing class which located within walking distance to our hotel as shown on below map from Booking.com:
Within 90 minutes, the instructor (Felix) has given a very good intro tutorial to make Alif stood on the board over the wave.
After checked in to hotel and gathered with some travelmates from CouchSurfing.org, we went to Beratan Lake for buffet lunch at Labaga Restaurant.
We got a great view to rice field.
Next stop was Ulun Danu Temple. From left to right: Mahendra, me, Alif, Pita, Laurent, Trias, Naomi.
Last touristic place to visit: The famous Tanah Lot Temple.
What a beautiful sunset.
SECOND DAY – December 11, 2011
Alif and I started the day by shopping at nearby traditional market before his second surfing class. The instructor (Yudi) was very encouraging, Alif had more confidence and really enjoyed his time on the wave.
Last pose at the beach before leaving Bali:
With “baju barong” shirt and “udeng” traditional headpiece, Alif and I were getting into our plane…hope to visit Bali again soon!
